An Affair with Saltation
I was staring at my Medium wall, it’s been ages I wrote something on it which now seems like an eternity and last thing I published was a poem.
I wrote this poem a decade back and decided to put it on Medium on the occasion of Lunar New year also celebrated as Spring Festival (农历新年 / 農曆新年) in China and other countries in that part of the world.
I have spent a large amount of time in China as part of working with my previous employer and got opportunity to be part of this mesmerising celebration.
The Season of Spring has touched and inspired all walks of life people, nature, literature, art, science and more and I would like to capture of it’s beauty through their own eyes.
Culture:
I didn’t learn Chinese but I did learn few words to get me comfortable with wandering on the Shenzhen streets alone. Few of the pleasantries one says on the lunar new year are;
Xin Nian Kuai Le (Happy Chinese New Year!)
Gong Xi Fa Cai (may you attain greater wealth)
Now enough of nostalgia of past but these are the moments one could go in past and be happy and content about it;
Forgetting all the longings and sacrifices one does to be away from home to a foreign land.
In a hindsight it was all worth, and a lifetime experience to carry forward in my present and future.
Common Man
I was swelling on the motifs to write and was coddled by many and sundry and then I realised; It’s spring in our part of the world so It calls for writing
The Song of the Spring
Grasses are green again and bees can be seen;
back from the hibernation to see at the queen;
of the season and all the lovely old green tree;
monks have started prancing too with the thee.
And singing;
The Song of the Spring
Music is in air singing lullabies to rhymes and rhapsody;
it is the king and it is the queen and air is plenty of glee;
sunshine is back and moon is back shining better again;
sparrows flying high out of the nest garnering for rain;
And singing;
The song of the Spring
Having made an attempt on my version of ‘The Song Of the Spring’ which I have left wilfully half-done to comeback someday to finish it after going through the beauty of this beautiful season.
Motion Films
There is more songs elsewhere and those are complete and far better than I would ever able to write so let me suggest one in my blog which won’t be complete motioning this while I am attempting to talk about Spring and it’s beauty.
Literature
I can’t stop myself quoting my inspiration and one of the greatest writer ever lived as far as English literature is concerned one and only William Shakespeare, He said and I quote;
It was a lover and his lass,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
That o’er the green corn-field did pass,
In the spring time, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.As You Like It’ (1599) act 5, sc. 3, l. [18]
Science
Even science is not left with the beauty from the season of spring and I would like to quote some quotable quotes of greatest scientist of our times Albert Einstein
He probably never quoted them in relation with the seasons but who can read his mind and thought experiments so I will go on and quote them bravely as being inspired by the season of Springs.
But science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth and understanding. This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion. To this there also belongs the faith in the possibility that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that is, comprehensible to reason. I cannot conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
The most evident difference springs from the important part which is played in man by a relatively strong power of imagination and by the capacity to think, aided as it is by language and other symbolically devices.
All these primary impulses, not easily described in words, are the springs of man’s actions.
I am of the opinion that all the finer speculations in the realm of science spring from a deep religious feeling, and that without such feeling they would not be fruitful.
Poets & Poems
Indian saints and poets have also written a lot about spring and it’s mesmerising affect on humans and nature.
I would like to quote a couplet by a great Indian poet Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khanan or simply known as Rahim
भले बुरे सब एक सें जौ लौं बोलत नाहिँ।
जान परतु हैं काक पिक ऋतु बसंत के माहिँ॥
Who is good and who is bad in this world? From outside all are the same but when they speak then their good and bad are known. Just as the crow and the cuckoo speak in the spring, only then their difference is known, in a way they both seem to be the same on the basis of their colour.-- Straight out of Google Translator (slightly edited)
I could go on writing about beauty of spring and how people in different walk of life get inspired by it.
Our Future Children
But I would like to end this billet-doux to the season of Spring for now and end with this lovely song which one could sing with children.
The Spring is Here..
Epilogue:
The Song of the Spring

of the season and all the lovely old green tree;
monks have started prancing too with the thee.
And singing;
